Volunteers needed! Help run Trap & Skeet and earn a discount on Trap & Skeet Rounds

Trap & Skeet is operated by club members on a volunteer basis. We need additional volunteers. If you can spare 3 1/2 hrs once every 4 to 6 weeks to help, email Glenn at trapandskeet@eriecountycl.org or stop by the trap & skeet office in the club house any Sunday between 12 pm and 3 pm and let us know you are interested. Never shot trap or skeet before, neither did I until I volunteered. We can set you up with someone to help you learn. You must be 18 years old or older and a club member.

Want to learn how to shoot trap or skeet?

  • Come to the trap & skeet desk in the clubhouse between 1 pm and 2 pm on any Sunday and let the volunteer know you are interested in learning to shoot trap and/or skeet.
  • A volunteer will walk you through basic safety related to trap & skeet. Then, they will give you basic instruction as you step through a round of trap or skeet.
  • If you need more help, just ask. Repetition is the key to improving.
  • You will need hearing and eye protection, a shotgun suitable for trap or skeet, depending on your interest, a box of shotgun shells (# 7 ½ or #8 lead shot only), and the fee for the round ($6 members, $8 non-members, $6 juniors). Almost any shotgun will work but 12 gauge (ga) is best for new shooters; 20 ga for smaller shooters that cannot handle the recoil of 12 ga.
  • You should already know basic gun safety. If you do not, there is a lot of useful information available from nssf.org, NRA, and others.
  • You should be familiar with handling your firearm safely. If you are new to shotguns and are not familiar with yours, a volunteer may be able to help you.
  • Sorry, we are not able to lend firearms due to liability.
  • If you want to learn some basics before coming out on a Sunday, there is a lot of useful information and videos on the internet. Search on “getting started in trap shooting” or getting started in skeet shooting.” Make sure you pick professional and reputable sources.
